Hunger Strike!

Mom decided -- foolishly, I might add -- that my canned doggie food was too expensive and not good for my teeth.  She also seemed to think I didn't appreciate it anymore since I left some in my bowl occasionally.  So you know what she did???

She gave me PLAIN OLD KIBBLE.  Now, I got plain kibbles before, but at least she put canned food on top to sweeten the deal a little.

But not anymore...

Blech.  Seriously.  Just plain old kibble...

I gave her a look.

And I pleaded, of course...

Turned on my "pathetic" charm.

Mom added something wet to my kibbles and then she cooked it in the microwave.  But I decided to remain firm.  I would NOT touch that nasty kibble.  I want my canned food back.  Not touching the icky dry stuff...

I'm turning up my nose that that stuff and I'm going on a hunger strike!!!

Nooooo icky dry kibbles!!!

MOM MUST LEARN!!!!!!

OK, so maybe when Mom left the kitchen I got desperate. And she caught me in the act.

Oops.

How embarrassing.

Hunger strike begins again tomorrow.

Puppy Snack Mix

Way back when I first got adopted 2.5 years ago, I trained Mom to give me treats at bed time.  Mom used to give me some of my kibble pieces as my snack.  But then as her training advanced, I convinced her to break out the good cookies instead of those healthy kibbles.

Well, she foolishly decided the other day to try to switch me back to the kibbles.

She began trying to sneak it past me by making a puppy snack mix out of dry kibbles and yummy cookies.

I was excited at first, expecting my nightly cookies.  "Gimme those cookies, Mom!"

I investigated the mix.

Started to nibble...

Nibbled some more...

Licked the sheet to make sure I got all the good stuff...

Yawned while licking my lips...

And I do believe I showed Mom exactly what I thought of her new tactic.

Then I glared at her.  "That is NOT going to work. I am NOT eating the kibbles."

I made sure I didn't leave any cookie crumbs...

And then I glared at Mom once again for giving me kibbles.

Seriously.  Give me good cookies.  That's how I've trained you...

Sneaky Supper

I don't like to eat dry kibble. That's a fact. Mom thinks I should eat dry kibble. That's another fact.

So, to try to get me to eat the kibbles, Mom puts pieces of canned food on top of the kibbles. She puts some powder stuff in there, too, for extra vitamins and stuff. Mom thinks she's soooo sneaky.

This is what my supper looks like:

I do my thing...

And this is what I leave for Mom:

See what I'm doing here? I'm turning the sneaky around! I just eat the canned pieces off the top and leave the rest virtually untouched!

For some reason, Mom doesn't appreciate my sneakiness.

Strategy: Act Pathetic

When your food bowl is empty, it's essential that you get it filled back up as quickly as possible. So, I'm going to share with you a great strategy that I've used several times.

It's simple. Act pathetic...and flop by your food bowl.

The "pathetic pup" technique works every time.

The Mom and the Kibbles

You know that story of "The Princess and the Pea?" Well, I've written my own version. I call it, "The Mom and the Kibbles." Here it is...

The Mom and the Kibbles

There once was an adorable, always-right Shih Tzu named Buttons. Buttons lived with her Mom, and even though she had only been with her forever family for a year and a half, Buttons had her Mom pretty well-trained. (She discovered early on that Mom had a weak spot for sad puppy eyes, and that really helped speed up the training.)

Each night at bedtime, Buttons got cookies. These were special kibble cookies because Buttons ate prescription doggie food for her bad allergies and tummy troubles.

Even though the cookies were kibble pieces, they were still VERY yummy as far as Buttons was concerned.

One night, Mom didn't sleep well. All night long she kept dreaming that she was sleeping on rocks or that things were poking her in the legs. She flip-flopped through the night, trying to get comfortable.

As Mom got out of bed the next morning, she thought about her funny dreams. She pulled back the bed sheet to investigate and discovered...KIBBLES!

Buttons hadn't eaten all of her kibble cookies at bedtime, and since Buttons liked to scoot to the middle of the bed during the night, the kibbles had followed right along. Those rocks that Mom dreamed about were actually the kibble pieces poking her!

Mom was not happy. Not happy at all. In fact, she banned all kibble cookies from the bed from that day on.

The moral of the story: Always finish your bedtime snack.

Now I gotta go practice my sad puppy eyes to see if I can get my kibbles back in the bed each night...

Super Sneaky at Supper

I was super diabolical during supper tonight. Mom usually puts little pieces of canned doggie food in with my kibbles. That way she THINKS she can "trick" me into eating all of the kibbles, too. I usually just eat the kibbles anyway, though, because I'm hungry. She's really not tricking me into anything.

See what I did tonight, though?

I ate all of the canned food but left a lot of the kibbles! He he he! I even spit some of 'em out after licking the canned food off.

The canned food is really so much better, though. I'm sure Mom can't blame me for my new tactic.

By the way, Mom says that last picture is proof that I need a haircut. Personally, I don't care if she can't see my eyes through the furs...

Anipal Photo Hunt: Grazin'

I didn't realize it, but the Anipal Photo Hunt is back! This week's theme is Grazin'. Now, I don't eat grass, so I can't show you pictures of that. I do eat kibble, though. And I looked it up, and "grazing" could mean eating stuff other than grass. So, these pictures should be just fine.

A while back I had some special powder stuff that Mom put on my food to help with my tummy issues. These pics are from me eating my powdered kibble. Mom thought it was hysterical that I ended up with powder all over my mouth...

I wasn't too thrilled about Mom's "photo shoot" while I was trying to eat my supper. Can you tell???

Here are the other Anipal Photo Hunt blogs for this time:

Getting More Food

I've discovered a wonderful way to get Mom to give me more food. First, act pathetic. Second, use the side of my food bowl as a pillow.

Icky, Sicky Messes

Someone made a big mess in our house today while Mom was at work. It couldn't have been ME, right? I'm completely innocent...

OK, so maybe it was me...

I got sick today while Mom was gone. And then I got sick again. And again. I actually managed to pukey in 9 different places inside our house. (That's got to be a new record, right?)

When Mom got home and found the mess, she broke out the SpotBot. I supervised.

"You toys doing OK? Don't worry about that SpotBot. It's just cleaning up the pukey." (I actually "got" the hallway in three spots -- there are two cleaned-up ones behind me.)

I'll admit that I was a little worried about Mom being upset with me 'cause of the mess. I hid under the bed for a bit. Took my snake under there with me, too.

But I shouldn't have worried. Mom never got upset with me. She just cleaned up the messes (for an hour) and petted me lots and lots. I think she was worried about me being sick. I did my best to look pathetic. I even hid under the table...looking super pathetic...

Mom cleaned and cleaned and finally got the carpets all nice again. Then Mom decided that there was too much pukey on me, too, and she said that I smelled. I didn't care...wasn't bothering ME. That didn't stop her, though. She took me to the bathtub. I hate that place. Here's a picture of me right before I launched myself out of the tub and ran to hide under the bed.

Sadly, Mom managed to pull me out from under the bed, and she took me back to the tub. She gave me a "sponge bath" on my chin, face, and ears 'cause of the pukey smell. I refused to look at her.

I gave her lots of dirty looks after the sponge bath, too.

Then I went right back to acting pathetic.

The only good thing that came out of the events of the evening was the fact that Mom put me back on the yummy bland diet. YES! Bring on the boiled hamburger and rice!!! So much tastier than dry kibble.

Now it's time to nap again...

My Bland Diet

Apparently, Mom is not a fan of having to take me out to potty at 2:00 a.m. I discovered that for sure last night. She really wasn't thrilled about the fact that I sorta had some...um...issues, either. If you're squeamish, you'd better skip ahead a bit... 'cause I'm talking about runny poo. Wasn't the first time, either. It's happened off and on for the last few days.

So Mom announced tonight that we're nipping this in the butt. (Pun intended.) She said she was switching me to a bland diet for a few days. I had no idea what she meant, but she said that she used to do this for Lexi when Lexi had tummy trouble and it helped her get all better.

Anyway, Mom took forever to cook herself supper tonight. I had to sit at the edge of the kitchen and supervise...

But then I realized that Mom wasn't cooking supper for herself...she was making food for ME! Turns out that this "bland diet" she was talking about is actually boiled hamburger and rice.

My table was set. (I added that squeaky bug myself. Needed a cool centerpiece.)

I totally chowed down!

Turns out that this "bland diet" stuff really rocks. I licked my bowl clean in record time. YUMMY!

Mom gave me a tiny bit more hamburger and rice later this evening and I think there was a little pink crunchy thing in there, too. But surely she didn't hide allergy medicine in my bland diet...right?

And now for your viewing pleasure, here's some video of me snarfing down that food.

I make some really cool snorty sounds in this one. He he he...

So what have we learned today? First, "bland diet" totally ROCKS. Second, I'm not so "ladylike" when I eat. He he he.

Snort.
