English Lesson: Homonyms

Mom works for English teachers during the day.  That's how she gets money to buy my toys and kibbles and allergy pills.  (She says she needs the money for rent and her stuff, too, but we all know the priorities around here.)  Anyway, since Mom knows some stuff about English, I thought I'd give everyone a quick lesson.

Ever heard of a homonym?  Homonyms are words that sound alike but have different meanings.  Sometimes the words are even spelled exactly the same. You wave hello to someone...but you can also watch the ocean waves.  OR you can eat a berry, but a smart dog will bury a toy to hide it for later.

Still confused?  Here's another example that may help clear things up:  Toy Piggy

A toy piggy is a squeaky toy that looks like a piggy.  (Oink, squeak, oink)

A toy piggy is also a Shih Tzu who is obsessed with toys and could...perhaps...maybe...just maybe...hoard them.

This, then, is a toy piggy sniffing a toy piggy:

And a toy piggy being attacked by a toy piggy:

And finally, a toy piggy playing with a toy piggy while being rudely covered up with nearby toys (Mom thought that was sooooo funny...but you'll note it didn't break my concentration):

I hope you've enjoyed this English lesson on homonyms (and toy piggies, of course...).

Toy Piggy

If you watched the video in my last post, you heard my new, snorty piggy toy that my cool neighbor gave me. Wanna see what it looks like?

Here's a picture of me playing with the piggy inside my princess tent.

And playing with it outside of the tent...

I played so much that I even had to nap with my new piggy in my mouth.

Mom took lots of videos of me with my piggy, too. She thought it was so funny that the piggy and I both kept snorting and grunting. (Mom's so weird.)

I think Mom felt a little bad about laughing so much at all of the snorts. You know what she did? She actually let me take the piggy to bed last night! I gotta take advantage of this while I can...

The Sounds of the Princess, Part 2

Tonight, my cool neighbor gave me a toy piggy that makes piggy sounds. The best part about that is that I make piggy sounds all of the time, too! So, when I was playing with my new piggy inside my princess tent, Mom couldn't tell what was making the noises -- her little piggy or the toy piggy!

Can YOU tell the difference?! It's about half me and half toy piggy!

Purple Piggy in the Hydrant

Got a new purple piggy toy in the mail today! Mom ordered it for me from NipAndBones.com. She had trouble getting a picture of me with it 'cause I was carrying it around with most of the pig in my mouth. Just a leg or two would stick out. I did put it down when I went to get some supper, though. See my purple piggy in this picture? It's right there in front of the green duck.

When I was playing with my new piggy tonight, I had a moment of brilliance. Out of the blue I came up with a great idea. And I mean a GREAT idea. Here's the moment it came to me -- can't believe Mom caught it on video!

See what I did? I started playing with my piggy INSIDE my fire hydrant! That fire hydrant is supposed to be a toy box, but the echo in there is awesome. So I just stuck my head inside with the toy box and squeaked and squeaked and squeaked that piggy!

Wasn't that brilliant?! I've never done that before, but it's definitely going to be added to my playtime repertoire.

Of course I did some of this tonight, too...

Had to do it "old school" even with my brilliant new play spot!

Surprise in the Mail

The mail man brought me a surprise package today!

Guess who it was from...my former foster sis Shawnee! She sent me a brand new monkey toy, and it made super-loud monkey sounds. Here's the card she included.

She saw all about how my other monkey toy fell apart so she sent me a new one! Shawnee is so sweet, isn't she? She even taped some of her furs in the card, so it was almost like she was here with me! I sniffed those furs for a while. Even napped on top of the card once tonight.

The monkey is really fun to play with. It's got lots of furs on it, and it's very fun to pluck at.

I played a LOT with that monkey tonight! I even used him as a pillow while I napped for a bit.

There was a sort of downside to the surprise package from Shawnee. You know what else she sent me? A piggy costume! UGH! It was the piggy Halloween costume that Shawnee's groomer gave me when I was living with my foster family. You see, I make lots of piggy noises all of the time, so they thought it was sort of appropriate to dress me like a piggy for Halloween.

I thought I'd seen the last of that silly costume when I came to live with my new Mom. I guess not!

I actually think Shawnee and my Mom conspired against me or something. Why else would Shawnee suddenly send that piggy costume out of the blue? My Mom got SO excited about getting it in the mail, too. Seemed sort of fishy to me.

Mom made me wear it tonight while she took pictures. It was humiliating. I refused to cooperate, too, since I was playing with my new monkey.

By the way, have you ever seen a piggy pluck the fur off a monkey?

I even rolled on (well...maybe "near" instead of "on") my new monkey while wearing the piggy costume.

Silly piggy costume. Honestly, what on earth is my Mom thinking? WHY is she making me wear this outfit?!

I suppose I should be honest with you, though. You see, I think the piggy costume was one of the things that made my new Mom fall in love with me. She knew all about me, of course, and she even sent me some toys at my foster home. But I'm pretty sure the pictures that Shawnee posted of me in my piggy costume must have sealed the deal because it wasn't too long after that that I found out I was going to get a forever and ever family.

So maybe the piggy costume isn't so bad after all... Oink, oink, oink.
